My friend Peter is selling his Honda Acty van. This is his local runabout and it’s an absolute hoot.

Scarce parts availability and driving on the wrong side yes

I’d love one if I never went on the highway.

Driving on the wrong side doesn’t really matter if the vehicle is around one meter wide and the driver being surrounded by such amount of glas s.

Somebody in my town has a Carry pickup I see pretty regularly, but kei trucks are imported at way, way higher rates than vans. I know for newer than 25 year pickemups, the legal rationale is “it’s an ATV lol” which is not *wrong*, but it raises the question of what a <25 year van could get away with.
I admit it’s a topic I sometimes indulge. Mostly I want a ‘70s Porter Cab, though, so 25 year to me is moot.

I’d get it, but I have a feeling I wouldn’t so much be ‘driving’ it as ‘wearing’ it.

I am a relatively large man and Peter is an even larger man. Neither of us feel even a little cramped in it in any direction

I figured as much, I was just looking for an excuse to post Megamind gifs...

That would have LHD too wouldn’t it? I don’t think they are allowed on public roads having never been road certified anywhere but I don’t know. I barely knew they existed and I’ve never seen one.

We got it in the U.K. as the Bedford Rascal (great name, little rascal. Lol).
Versatile vehicle.
Little camper conversions,
There is something cool about sitting over the front wheels on full lock, spinning around.

I just want to hug it.

As awesome as this is, I’m holding out for a kei truck since it’d be way more practical for my uses

With turbo fan rims!!!!!!!!!

Kei vans and Kei trucks are road legal in many/most states, with the asterisk that you don’t drive them on roads above like 35-45. Basically, they’re treated like side by sides.

Yes, but this isn’t an imported Japanese kei van. It’s an American market “kei” van that is functionally the same but doesn’t have the title of a full blown car. It is like the Mahindra Roxor in that it is a real car that can’t be registered as such.
Which is why a Cushman is less preferable than an imported kei van even if you have to deal with RHD.

Everyone I know with a kei car (and they’re in seven states across the country) has actually been able to register them as full cars with no speed restrictions. The only thing keeping them off the interstate is fear lol.
Peter has a Mira in addition to the Acty and he regularly goes on the interstate with that one. It gets to 60 as fast as some current US market cars and can maintain that speed with no drama

That is the only possible response.

Wait, now I have to search Instagram to look for cars for sale? Isn’t Instagram mobile only, account mandatory?
Everyone, just use Craigslist please! And Craigslist, figure out nation-wide search. What a mess.

Instagram is mobile-only for posting, but you can view, comment, and message from a computer. And I'm sure he's posted it elsewhere, including Craigslist, I just happened to see it on Instagram because I follow him there. Posting what you have for sale on every outlet you have access to only improves your odds.

Oh really? That was the only thing keeping me from dipping into the kei van/truck world. My state supposedly limits them but I suppose if you can get the DMV to register it as a regular car.
Ooooooooh you just gave me bad ideas. lol

Good point! And Dusty also just pointed out that you can get an import kei van/truck registered as a fully real car, too.
*Heads to Facebook Marketplace*

Yeah, those Cushman vans couldn’t be driven on public roads so they never really caught on when there were cheaper alternatives to groundskeeping vehicles and even then those are almost the price of a new Frontier.

I'd never heard of the speed restriction thing either. We were discussing why the Cushman van isn't road legal though. It was never certified for road use anywhere while the Japanese title can be transferred to a full title here like a normal car as we don't have the same classification as them.

My A utozam is fully registered too, it will do 87 (electronically governed) and keeps up with traffic just fine. Even drove it across the country.
Kei Trucks and Vans are more power limited speed wise though. I don’t think they can do much more than 50-60 mph without modification.
